The Changing Landscape of Cancer Surgery:

An Update for Anaesthetists

Auckland City Symposium is a one-day, single-theme meeting offering anaesthetists, intensivists and perioperative physicians an in-depth look at a rapidly changing area of clinical practice.

Our keynote speakers for 2027 are Dr Debra Leung and Associate Professor Jamie Young.

Dr Debra Leung is a Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, with a strong clinical and academic interest in perioperative medicine and high-risk oncology surgery. She is currently undertaking a PhD exploring the role of Shared Decision Making in major surgery and is recognised as a leading expert in this field.

Associate Professor Jamie Young is a Specialist Pain Physician and Clinical Lead of Pain Medicine at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. His clinical and research interests span Acute and Chronic Cancer Pain, and he has published widely in this field.

ACS 2027 will also feature specialist sessions exploring cardio-oncology, the perioperative implications of emerging cancer therapies, and a quickfire research roundup highlighting recent publications relevant to perioperative cancer care.

Join us for a day exploring how advances in cancer surgery, systemic therapies and perioperative care are changing the challenges — and opportunities — for anaesthetists and perioperative physicians alike.
